Mari Boine with special guest Frode Fjellheim steps in as this years headliner at Riddu Riđđu, East Journey/Yothu Yindi unfortuntalely has to cancel.

Riddu Riđđu´s  headliner this year, East Journey/Yothu Yindi, has had to cancel their show due to rejected funding that makes the long journey from Australia to Kåfjord impossible this year. East Journey/Yothu Yindi was set to play on the festivals main stage on the Saturday evening.

« We are sad, both in regards to the festival and on East Journey/Yothu Yindi regards, we were really looking forward tho this» says festival director Karoline Trollvik.

The new headliner is now Mari Boine, who last performed at the festival in 2010.

Riddu Riđđu is very happy to get Mari Boine to step in last minute;

«When it was clear East Journey/Yothu Yindi had to cance, we acted quickly and feel really lucky to get Mari Boine er their substitute. Mari Boine has a lot of fans amongst the  Riddu audience» says Trollvik.

Mari Boine will perform a special set together with the acknowledged southern Sami musician, Frode Fjellheim.

«It is nice to be able to help out Riddu Riđđu, I consider it my homeground» says Mari Boine in a comment.
