Radik Tyulyush is performing at this year’s Riddu Riđđu

This year it is Radik Tyulyush, one of the world’s leading overtone singers, who will bring the audience on a musical journey through the Mongolian steps. 

Radik Tyulyush is from Tuva, a Russian republic between Sibiria and Mongolia. Tuva is particularily known to the outside world for their skilled overtone singers, a technique where one person sings two or more distinct pitches at the same time. Radik Tyulyush is known worldwide as a master of the overtone tradition. He is amongst the first artists who introduced this thechnique to a wider audience, particularly as a member of the world famous bands Yat-Kha and  Huun-Huur-Tu. He has since also established himself as a solo artists, and is a sought after collaborator for western musicians.  

In his performances he imitate nature sounds accompanied with galloping rythms on the string instruments, and bring us into to the open landscape and life on the Tuvan steps.

This year you can experience Radik Tyulyush on several occations, he will perform solo in the the traditional Mongolaion Yurt, one of the Riddu Riđđu festivals most popular venues, he will also give a workshop in overtone singing, giving our audience an opportunity to learn this traditional Tuvan technique. And he will give a main stage performance with «Chalama-project». "Chalama" is the Tuvan word for the coloured ribbons tied to the branches of trees in sacred places. The music of the project is an atmosphere, reproducing natural and ambient sounds and feelings from their homelands in Tuva. In the Chalama Project he’s accompanied by an adventurous trio of Sergey Kalachev (fretless bass) and Gennady Lavrentiev (tabla tarang and violin).
