Riddu Riđđu’s young artist of the year announced
The Sámi slam poet Ánná Káisá Partapuoli has been announced as Riddu Riđđu’s young artist in 2018.
Ánná Káisá is 23 years old, has grown up in Skånland and Sopporo, but lives in Tromsø at the moment where she is studying pedagogics. She has written poems and lyrics all her life, with an increasing wish in the last years for more opportunities to perform her poems live and influence Sámi literature.
Festival director Karoline Trollvik says; «Ánná Káisá Partapuoli is a young literary talent, who impresses in the way she places herself within the Sámi society, while observing and commenting from within it.
Partapuoli finds inspiration for her poetry in the Sámi lifestyle, the Sámi society and reindeer herding. Many of her texts are also political and she aims to lift the Sami language, and especially the Tornesami dialects value and usage. As a slam poet she wants to prove that the Sami language is fully possible to rime with, and that poetry can be of great joy and inspiration for young people.
A happy and excited Partapuoli comments on her new title; « To be announced as The Young Artist of the Year is a great honor and means a lot. I hope this can open new doors for me, and become a turning point in my artistic career. I´ve already started preparing for the festival and look forward to the summer and the year ahead».
The announcement of the Young Artist of the Year is part of the Riddu Riđđu Festivals focus on assisting and enabling young Sámi artists to develop their talents and be more visual nationally and internationally. In collaboration with Kulturnæringsstiftelsen SpareBank 1 Nord-Norge and the foundation Lásságámmi the Young Artist of the Year is given a scholarship of 25 000kr and a month stay at the artist residency Lásságámmi - the previous home of the late Nils-Aslak Valkepää.
Partapuoli will start her year as our young artist during this year’s Riddu Riđđu festival, where she will receive the title from Ánna-Katri Helander. Partapuoli will be extensively presented during the festival with her own program slot, where she chooses the format and form.
