Art-in-progress: Northern people of the year

Workshop
Northern people of the year

Art in Progress is a truly special opportunity to witness cutting edge artists actively engaged in their artistic processes.

This workshop involves three artists from the Northern People of the Year Delegation:

Kai Mikkel Balto is a visual artist from Tromsø who explores Sámi queerness through pushing the boundaries of traditional duodji and queer expression.
Kai finds inspiration in Sámi design and recently completed a year at Sámij áhpadusguovdásj to continue to build their knowledge of garraduodji.
Balto was named Riddu Riđđu´s Young Artist of the Year and is emerging as an important voice in Sámi arts field.

Maya McKibbin is a two-spirited multidisciplinary animator, illustrator, and comic artist currently living on the unceded traditional territories of the xwməθkwəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and səlilwətaɬ Nations.
Maya uses illustration to explore the magic of the natural and supernatural world, along with realms of grief, nostalgia, and curiosity.

Seqinninguaq Poulsen is an Inuk artist from Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland) who works with acrylics, watercolor and digital painting to explore issues of decolonization and queer Indigineity.
Seqinninguaq has won awards for their advocacy work which includes establishing LGBTQ+ Greenland (now Greenland+) and continues to be a passionate advocate for Indigenous and LGBTQ+ rights.

Come see these unique and vital artists create!
