With several high-profile cases of renewable energy ventures seeking themselves into Sami lands, the Sami society is grappling with the consequences of both the climate crisis and increased land grabs. A collaboration project between the Nordic Amnesties and the Sami Council is working on bringing more information about this double burden to the Nordic climate front via an upcoming research report on human rights violations done in the name of the green transition.  

This discussion will focus particularly on the current state of green energy land grabs in Sápmi. Does “green” energy production come with the price tag of Human Rights violation, or can it be avoided?
