Marja Mortensson
Marja Mortensson presents her latest commissioned work, Jaevriegaske – The Land Between Two Lakes, which premiered exclusively at the Førde Festival. In this piece, she explores her South Sámi artistic language. The two lakes live parallel lives—perhaps they have hidden depths, perhaps they are connected by small streams or an underground passage. What can the land in between tell us? What is said between the lines? What do we communicate through the words we choose, the tone, the pitch, the mood of the joiks—and what about the knowledge that can only be experienced, not explained? Telling or joiking with hidden meanings is part of our heritage. How are such texts created, and how do we carry this legacy forward?
