Home win for Riddu Riđđu
Norther soul by Simone Grøtte and Herman Rundberg is about belonging and the love you carry for your homeland. This summer, along with a golden team of north Norwegian and Sami musicians, they will bring the audience at Riddu on a journey far within the north-Norwegian and Sami spirit.
Northern soul was originally a commissioned piece for Varangerfestivalen in 2014. Through a melting pot of dance, music and video projections the audience is taken on a journey along good and bad of the northern parts of our country; northern light, midnight sun, moskito repeller, wollen socks year around, the near and dear, as well as the rough and cold. In addition to Herman Rundberg and Simone Grøtte, SlinCraze, Petter Carlsen, Kjetil Holmstad-Solberg, Ole Jørn Myklebust, and a string quartet from the North Norwegian opera and symphony orchestra, Halvard Rundberg and Hogne Rundberg will contribute on stage.
Last autumn «Northern soul, the album» was released and the songs «Hjemmeseier» and «Filli filli» was listed on NRK radio. During the annual TV-fundrasing in 2015 the songs were also performed live to millions of onlookers.
Simone and Herman are born and raised in Lakselv and Kåfjord. And their background is often a clear influence in their productions. They say; “We are so happy and proud to be performing Northern Soul at the Riddu Riddu festival in 2016. When we were working on the production for Varangerfestivalen we dreamt of a chance to perform in one more time. Now it is happening “at home”, Riddu, at it is just very big for us! This will be the first time we perform the piece with that many of the singers and artistst that contributed precent, something that will make this particular performance very unique"
