Meet Ainu: Mukkuri workshop

Workshop
Northern people of the year

Do you want to learn how to play mukkuri, traditional Ainu mouth harp?

Join Kapiw & Apappo for a musical workshop and presentation. They are two sisters who grew up in the Akan Lake Ainu community in Hokkaido. KAPIW means seagull, APAPPO means flower in Ainu.

Since childhood, they have been conveying the charm of Ainu songs, focusing on songs passed down from Akan and their grandmother, while also incorporating traditional instruments such as the mukkur and tonkori. They began their activities as a duo in 2011, and have since then performed throughout all over the world.

It’s possible to buy mukkuri at the workshop.
