The meaning of "Two-spirit"

Seminar
Northern people of the year

Indigenous peoples all over the world have their own unique relationships to identity, gender, sexuality and to the natural world. Many of these fluid identities or ways of being have been harmed through colonization. Two-Spirit, LGBTQQIA+ communities have been working hard to advocate for inclusivity, accessibility and safety around different Two-Spirit identities, and understandings of gender expression. Two-spirit is a term used by many Indigenous peoples across Turtle Island to describe people who walk in between worlds, who travel within their ways of expressing identity and who break the colonial gender norms.

What is the meaning of “Two-Spirit"? And has knowing the “Two-Spirit" history helped communities accept queer relatives?

In this conversation you will meet people who identify as Two-Spirited to learn more about what this means. You will also experience a glimpse of what Two-Spirit experiences are like within communities, urban areas and in different territories.
